Welcome Note

I'm pleased you found your way to my listing. I still can't get over the fact I'm a bona-fide novelist. After 20-some years as a fact-bound journalist, I'm thrilled to finally have a say in how my stories turn out. I hope you've had the chance to read MAMA DOES TIME and MAMA RIDES SHOTGUN, the first two books in my funny, Florida-set series. Better yet, I hope you liked them! If so, look for No. 3, MAMA GETS HITCHED, available now.

Author Bio

I was born in Fort Lauderdale, to a family with roots deep in Florida. In two decades covering the state, mostly as a reporter for USA Today, I found some spots so off-the-map they surprised even a native like me. Molasses Junction. Bagdad (yes, without the H). Myakka City. I knew if I ever wrote a novel (every journalist's secret dream!), I'd set it some place like those down-home spots. Enter the mythical town of Himmarshee, Fla. It's a figment of my imagination, based on an authentic part of the state --cattle ranches and citrus groves; sweet tea and barbecue. Himmarshee is like Okeechobee, except tinier. And it's like Davie, where I rode as a girl, before the ranches and orange trees vanished under asphalt. I love little towns. Even met my TV reporter husband in 1983 in Immokalee, Fla., competing for stories on a winter-vegetable freeze. Kerry Sanders and I have been married forever. No pets. No kids. We had goldfish once. Turned out badly.

She may be a serial bride, but Mama sees no reason to scale back on the Wedding of the Century in little Himmarshee, Fla -- complete with Scarlett O'Hara gowns for her reluctant daughters and a ring-bearing Pomeranian in satin vest and top hat. But what's a bridezilla to do when her caterer is found murdered in the kitchen at the VFW, even before the first pig-in-a-blanket is passed?

Mama Does Time
Author: Deborah Sharp
Published: October 1, 2008 by Midnight Ink
Series Name: The Mace Bauer Florida Mysteries
Category: Cozy
Main Character: Mace Bauer, outdoorsy, independent, still single--much to Mama's dismay. Mace is Mama's middle girl, not as sweet as sister Marty; not as mean as Maddie. Detective Carlos Martinez may be just the man for Mace, Mama thinks. Too bad he suspects Mama of murder.
Mace is settling in with TV's COPS, watching for ex-beaus, when her mama calls, frantic. This isn't unusual. Mama is excitable. But this time the trouble's for real. There's a body in the trunk of her turquoise convertible, and the police think she's the killer.
Now, Mace must use her tracking skills to find the real culprit. If she fails, Mama goes to the slammer, just like a country music song.
MAMA DOES TIME is a cozy with a comedic edge: Agatha Christie meets "My Name is Earl.''
