"An impressive debut mystery." --Albuquerque Journal. Charlie Parker, accountant and partner in an Albuquerque private investigation firm, is visited by an old school friend, Stacy North. Eight years earlier, Stacy eloped with Charlie's fiance, Brad, and Charlie is jolted when Stacy shows up at her office. Stacy's Rolex watch is missing and she wants Charlie's help in getting it back. Charlie's brother, Ron the PI, is out of town. Stacy panics at the idea of a delay; she must have the watch back now! After some tactful questions, Charlie concludes Stacy has been seeing another man who has probably stolen the watch. Stacy is terrified Brad will find out. Charlie agrees to see what she can do, locates the watch, and returns it. That should be the end of it. But three days later the "other man" is found murdered. Once again Charlie gets an anxious visit from Stacy, who is afraid the police will involve her. Charlie agrees to help because Stacy is obviously afraid of Brad. The dead man's life turns out to be far more complicated than Charlie could have ever anticipated and Charlie finds her own life in danger as she sorts through the maze of suspects in her efforts to find the real killer and clear Stacy as a suspect.
