A reformed newspaper reporter and ad man, Housewright earned the 1996 Edgar Award for Best First Novel from the Mystery Writers of American as well as a Shamus nomination from the Private Eyes Writers of America for Penance. His second novel - Practice To Deceive - won the 1998 Minnesota Book Award and Jelly's Gold earned the same prize in 2010. His other novels include Dearly Departed, A Hard Ticket Home, Tin City, Pretty Girl Gone, Dead Boyfriends and Madman On A Drum. His tenth novel – The Taking of Libbie, SD – the seventh featuring Twin Cities trouble-shooter Rushmore McKenzie, was published June 8. In addition, Housewright’s short stories have appeared in publications as diverse as Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and True Romance as well as anthologies Silence of the Loons, Twin Cities Noir, and Resort to Murder. Housewright has taught writing courses for the University of Minnesota and the Loft Literary Center. He lives in Roseville, MN.

Madman On A Drum Author: David Houswright Published: May 20, 2008 by St. Martin's Minotaur Series Name: Rushmore McKenzie Homicide cop Bobby Dunston's daughter has been kidnapped, taken in broad daylight on a city street in the middle of September. The kidnappers demand a million dollars and force Dunston to get the ransom from his friend Rushmore McKenzie. It soon becomes apparent to both of them that one of the kidnappers is childhood pal Scottie, a once aspiring drummer now gone astray, and that the kidnapping is payback for "crimes" they committed in their past. Of course McKenzie, a former cop and now unlicensed P.I., handles the ransom drop-off and the child is returned safely. |
